Amy Brenneman (Private Practice, Judging
Amy, Heat) returns to her theatrical roots with Mouth Wide
Open, an original performance that explores the ecstatic, excruciating,
humorous dance between the sacred and profane in her own life. Her
spiritual curiosity has taken her from Buddhist monks in Nepal to
an evangelical church in the Mississippi Delta to the red carpet
in Hollywood. But it was in a recent hospital room that her beliefs
were most powerfully tested.
Brenneman wrote and co-created Mouth Wide
Open with longtime collaborator director Sabrina Peck (Lincoln
Center Theater, Yale Rep, Dance Theater Workshop). With their witty
and soulful style, Brenneman and Peck have created a piece that
celebrates the sorrows and the joys of being human, finding divinity
in surprising places and ways.
Mouth Wide Open was developed at
the Yard during a two-week residency.
