  • Position runs May 15th, 2019 - September 10th, 2019, with option to renew for follow seasons, and the opportunity for one-week off-season engagements throughout the Fall, Winter and Spring

  • Full Time, Salaried while on contract

The Assistant Production Manager & Technical Director will work with the Production Manager to plan and execute all aspects of a multi-artist summer dance festival, including lighting, sound and projection operation as well as sound design and engineering. Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Production Manager to plan and execute all aspects of a multi-artist summer dance festival.

  • Provide Sound Design and Engineering for all residency artists.

  • Assist and run load-in, setup, show run, and load-out for each Visiting Artist — including sound and lighting hang and focus, rigging, wardrobe maintenance, and general theater operations alongside the PM and technical production interns.

  • Operating lighting, sound, projection and performing any other necessary show run duties for with assistance from summer interns and staff as directed by the PM.

  • Guaranteeing a safe and professional working atmosphere in the theatre, studio, and in general around The Yard Inc.'s physical campus.

  • Maintaining The Yard’s stock of lighting, audio, projection equipment, soft goods, audience seating, staging materials, and other miscellaneous theatrical and production necessities.

  • Research and bid-out technical equipment rental options for Visiting Artists as directed by the PM. Maintain relationships with vendors and local retail establishments.

  • Generate shopping lists and acquire goods as needed for performances as directed by the PM.

  • Contributing to the general repair of The Yard’s physical campus as directed by ED (with consultation and partnership with the Property Manager), performing maintenance and up-keep tasks as directed by the ED and/or Property Manager.

  • Assist with Front of House, Box Office, and Merchandise sale duties as needed by The Yard Inc. staff.  Supervise summer interns working in each of the aforementioned roles.

  • Mentor summer interns, especially the Production Interns, on proper theater operating procedures, new skill refinement, and daily physical and administrative operations of a performing arts and residency center.

  • Assist summer interns and other Yard Inc. staff with pre and post-performance setup and breakdown.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Secondary Degree in Dance or Theatrical Design/Production; and/or 3+ years of experience in the field

  • Heavy experience in Sound Design and Engineering

  • Experience in Lighting Design

  • Experience in Stage Management/Theater Operations

  • Ability to maintain irregular and extended work hours

  • Experience with common theatrical software, including EOS family lighting consoles, Apple OS, Qlab, Vectorworks, Lightwright, Microsoft Office & Google Suite

  • Effective manager and leader

  • A self-starter, successful working in a fast-paced arts center with multiple programs

  • Enjoys a collaborative, creative work environment

  • Highly organized, able to work with multiple assignments independently and handle deadlines

  • Interacts cooperatively and effectively with all artists, staff, vendors, and patrons

  • Able to lift, push or pull objects up to 100 pounds using appropriate tools.
