Performance Opportunity for Ages 5-10:
Bessie Schönberg Performance Project
- Creative Movement Play with Creatures and Robots

Performance: Friday September 3rd, 2011 and Saturday September 4th, 2011
Rehearsals and workshops would start week of August 8th, 2011

Students will use their imaginations to orient their bodies in time and space, develop rhythm and coordination, and transform into otherworldly creatures.  Freedom of expression and improvisation will be encouraged and further developed through art projects that build costumes, sculptures, and drawings (using recycled materials).  The workshop will culminate in an interactive lecture demonstration as the kids lead the audience through their worlds of transformation.

Instructors:  Kai Kleinbard and Cori Olinghouse

Kai Kleinbard was born and raised in Brooklyn and graduated from Sarah Lawrence College.   His approach to movement is influenced by his study of waving with Future Ninja, voguing with Archie Burnett and Benny Ninja, and Aikido. Kai has worked with artists Kota Yamazaki, Mina Nishimura, Gerald Casel, Jimena Paz, and Cori Olinghouse. He tutors privately (grades K-12) and specializes in developing and organizing his students' work and learning habits. Kai is a certified Alexander Technique teacher and teaches emergent learning with his partner, Cori Olinghouse.

Cori Olinghouse is a dance artist and certified Alexander Technique teacher.  She makes dances that explore the plasticity and shapeshifting capacities of the body, space, and time.  Her work has been presented by Danspace Project, The Flynn Center for the Performing Arts, Bennington College, The Brooklyn Museum of Art, Dixon Place, Joyce SoHo, and Movement Research.  Cori danced for the Trisha Brown Dance Company from 2002-2006. In 2005, Cori began a dancing dialogue with Bill Irwin and has since been studying voguing with Archie Burnett and Benny Ninja from the House of Ninja.  Teaching credits include: Alexander Technique classes to the Trisha Brown company members, guest classes at New York University, Rutgers University, Hunter College, Bennington College, Ohio State University, and Tseh in Moscow.  Cori teaches emergent learning with her partner, Kai Kleinbard.
