Julie Rooney has a filmic and graphic style that draws from fine art, music, and experimental film, which she uses to produce dance for camera art films, show content, and documentation in addition to her video production and graphic design work. Julie received her MFA in Film and Integrated Media Arts Practice from the University of Colorado at Boulder, studied Illustration and Animation on exchange at the Glasgow School of Art, and received her BA with Honors in Studio Art (Video Art) from DePauw University.
Julie specializes in dance film and has worked extensively with dancers and musicians in New York, San Francisco, and the Colorado Front Range, and continues to work with Dancing Camera, an arts production company and long time friend of The Yard. Prior to arriving at The Yard Julie had a varied and vibrant career in videography, graphic design, and the arts. Julie taught as a Visiting Assistant Professor for video art and digital art at Indiana University, served as Director for Low Road Gallery in Greencastle Indiana, and worked for eight years as a graphic designer and sock illustrator for FBF Originals.
A lifelong musician from a family of musicians, Julie continues to play viola in every city she lives in, including the Brooklyn Symphony, the Boulder Symphony, and the Bloomington Symphony. As a video and performance artist Julie has exhibited at venues like the Cincinnati Contemporary Arts Center, Monkey Town 4, the Antimatter Film Festival, Experimental Television Center, and SANDWICH in Japan.
