Martha Eddy, CMA, RSMT, EdD is a founder of the field of Somatic Movement Education & Therapy & Dance Somatics, author and lecturer on eco-somatics, neuro-motor & socio-emotional development, & peace education. She's teaches at Princeton University and has taught for Antioch, Columbia, Hope & Hampshire Colleges, & NYU. Her movement therapy clients range from pre-natal to elders. She teaches her system of “BodyMind Dancing” internationally, as well as master classes for the Laban/Bartenieff Institute, School for Body-Mind Centering® and her Dynamic Embodiment SMTT. She directs the Center for Kinesthetic Education providing professional development and pre-K-12 for NYC’s Dept. of Education and the independent school network. She founded Moving For Life, Inc and developed Moving For Life DanceExercise for Cancer Recovery in 1999. Moving For Life (www.movingforlife.org) has been featured on NY1, CNN, Fox News, the Today Show and CBS. Martha performs periodically, most recently she has been touring This Old House a tribute to her teachers - Irmgard Bartenieff and Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen.
She began dancing at the Chilmark Community Center in the 1960s with Kathy Costanza which is where she met Patricia Nanon. She joined the advisory council of the Yard under DiAnn Ray and has been involved ever since.
