Sarah Jane Hughes A passionate Yard volunteer since the early 1990's, former board president Sarah Jane Hughes teaches banking regulation, payments law, privacy, and financial crimes at Indiana University in Bloomington. Professor Hughes is the author of two books, Responding to National Security Letters: A Practitioner's Guide (2009) and RFIDs, Near-Field Communications and Mobile Payments: What Lawyers Should Know (2013), numerous book chapters, and articles. Her current projects involve virtual currencies, cybersecurity issues in domestic and cross-border transactions, and changing currents in U.S. economics sanctions and anti-money laundering law enforcement. She is married to A. James Barnes, an environmental law leader and scholar since the founding of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The family have been seasonal residents of Edgartown since 1988.
