Residency

Yard founder Patricia Nanon presents her 35th Anniversary Season choreographic premiere. Guest choreographer Jonathan Riedel, long-time veteran of the Jose Limon Company, presents a new piece created while in residence.

Opening Night Celebration Thursday with champagne at 6:30 and savories and sweets following the performance. Curtain at 7:00. Performances Friday - Sunday at 8:00

Chilmark Writers' Workshop with Nancy Aronie

Nancy Aronie presents a working season of the Chilmark Writers' Workshop with island writers Sonia Archer, Carol Gilligan, Iris Grace, Steve Kemper, Devorah Medwin, Taffy McCarthy, Niki Patton, Ericka Ramis, Laura Roosevelt, Gwen Snider, Gerald Blake Storrow, and Cynthia Wolfson.

Double Bill: Whale Nation and Justin Ahren

An evening of theater and music. Back by popular demand, Donavon Dietz returns in Whale Nation, a lush tribute to the dignity of the whale. The family friendly piece, presented with the Martha’s Vineyard Museum, explores the whaling epic through the eyes of the whale and nature lovers everywhere, in an acting tour de force. After the play, there will be an outdoor concert with Justin Ahren and his band. Justin’s songs pack a lyric intensity and sonic texture wrapped around memorable melodies. Bassist Shawn Barber and mandolin player Stuart Gardner bring their signature playing to music that defies genre.

She Could Have Danced All Night: An Evening in Honor of Elaine Miller, starring Marni Nixon

A very special benefit in recognition of Elaine Miller, Yard president emerita, featuring legendary singer Marni Nixon. The event begins with champagne, a solo performance by Limón Company member Katie Diamond, and a frolic by island children. Ms Nixon’s performance of the world’s most loved classic show tunes will be followed by supper and dancing for all.


6:30 Champagne and Post-performance dancing and refreshments.

Lucinda Childs: A Documentary Film by Patrick Bensard.

Lucinda Childs began her career as choreographer and performer in 1963 as an original member of the Judson Dance Theater in New York. Bensard’s documentary features interviews with Lucinda Childs, Philip Glass, Anna Gisselgoff, Susan Sontag and Robert Wilson, and a collaboration with Mikhail Baryshnikov. Both Patrick Bensard and Lucinda Childs will appear at the screening.

Bessie Schonberg Choreographic Premieres

New works by exciting young choreographers Sidra Bell, Janice Lancaster, Sharon Moore and Stefanie Nelson, chosen from an international pool of applicants.
