What is DEL?
The 92Y Dance Education Laboratory based in New York City, is a professional development program for all educators and artists interested in developing their dance education curricula. DEL is a leader in providing quality educational resources and classes for educators and is a New York State Education Department-approved Sponsor of Continuing Teacher and Leader Education (CTLE).
"But I'm not a dance educator."
Perfect! We love embracing differences!
The mission of DEL is to bring dance into children’s and teens’ lives and education by:
· Inspiring teachers to be lifelong learners
· Encouraging experimentation and observation in teaching
· Promoting the artistic development of teachers
· And empowering teachers to give students ownership of the art form as a means of communication, collaboration and problem-solving, as a key to understanding their cultural heritage and as a medium for personal aesthetic expression.
These are skills that transcend a specific concentration or expertise but that allow personal and professional development to be an integrated experience, thereby inspiring new ideas about teaching, learning, and curriculum development and execution! You will also experience the debut of The DEL App- Dance Maker, an exciting app that brings technology and creative tools into the hands of teachers and students worldwide!
Deborah Damast's tenure teaching at The Yard spans over ten summers. Deborah acts as the Director of KidsDoDance! and an ambassador for Dance Education Laboratory (DEL), a professional development program for dance educators at the 92nd St. Y in New York City. As a consultant to The Yard, Deborah has directly influenced the advancement of MAKING IT through the development of the program’s core curriculum, the training of its resident teachers, and The Yard’s access to the educational and artistic resources of DEL.
In addition to her extensive dance career, Jesse Keller Jason serves as Director of Island Programs and Education and Co-Producer at The Yard, as well as Co-Artistic Director of DanceTheYard (DTY), The Yard’s resident dance collective. At The Yard she has played an instrumental role in developing and implementing MAKING IT, a creative dance-making curriculum and creativity initiative now active in all Martha’s Vineyard Public and Charter schools, as well as at the YMCA, in afterschool programs, libraries, senior centers, and elsewhere around island. In 2014 she was named ‘Woman of the Year’ by Women Empowered for her work in dance education.
