Works with: Director of Marketing and Graphic Design, Development and Marketing Associate, Director of Development & Associate Producer, Dancing Camera, senior staff, fellow Interns, festival artists, local media personnel

The Digital Marketing Media Intern is a:

• Marketing strategist

• Social media creator 

• Brand identity developer

Focused Responsibilities:

  • Creating and executing novel social media campaigns

  • Maintaining vibrant and active social media accounts

  • Helping develop new strategies and campaigns to grow The Yard’s brand identity

  • Collaborating with the Video Production Intern to create special marketing and development social video campaigns

  • Assisting with social digital photography documentation

  • Creating press releases for all summer performances

  • Hang show posters around the island in collaboration with the Video Production Intern

Core Skills Required:

  • The ability to create and execute social media campaigns

  • Media-focused experience with Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and/or other social media platforms

  • A background in marketing and/or advertising

  • Responsive and responsible email and phone communications skills

  • Basic photography knowledge is a plus

The Marketing Internship

The Digital Marketing Intern is an essential position in a thriving arts organization. The ideal candidate is a highly self-motivated and detail-oriented creative with a strong grasp of social media marketing trends and strategies. This intern works directly with all of the artists, the staff, and has one-to-one mentoring from the Director of Marketing. As the voice that establishes The Yard’s brand identity through social media, the ideal candidate is self-directed, responsible, and has the ability to work effectively in a group and with multiple supervisors. Key skills include a moderate to high familiarity with marketing and advertising strategies, social media platforms, a calm demeanor, and the ability to work on deadlines. 

The Digital Marketing Media Intern will also assist the Video Production Intern to develop video-forward social media campaigns. Furthermore, the ideal candidate has comfort and familiarity with photography, and can help take photos in order to generate content for The Yard’s social media channels. 

As evidenced in the portfolio requirements, a successful applicant has proven experience in creating novel and exciting social media campaigns and working with a group to achieve broad goals. The Marketing Director is excited to hear about and support the Marketing Media Intern’s ideas for new social media strategies. The ideal candidate will play an instrumental role in growing The Yard’s audience and brand identity ahead of a major fundraising campaign. 

Experience with social media platforms and the Microsoft suite are essential. Knowledge of Squarespace, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Vimeo are a plus. Weekly responsibilities include working with the Director of Marketing  and Development and Marketing Associate to create social media campaigns, maintain an on-point social media presence for The Yard, research new audiences and marketing strategies, and assist the Video Production intern with video documentation of dance performances.

At the end of the internship, the candidate will have made substantial advancements in understanding social media campaigns for non profits and the arts, brand identity, and video production.
