Community Workshops

Feb 6-10 | March 9 - 12

Afro-Brazilian Choreographer, Leo Sandoval, from Music from the Sole, will visit The Yard for a Workshop Residency — partnering with ESL teachers and principals to bring dance, rhythm and joy to island students, elementary through adult learners.

Leonardo Sandoval teaches rhythm-based movement and music. He draws on his own Afro-Brazilian heritage as well as tap dance, samba, and house, highlighting the deep connections that exist between these Afro-Diasporic art forms. His work builds on simple rhythm patterns making extensive use of body percussion, stomping, clapping, and call-and-response. This enables participants of all ages and ability, regardless of any dance or music background, to participate in the creation of an original piece of dance and music.
